As the words left his lips, it was already too late, I had already passed judgment by the expression of my face. I didn’t want to crush the exuberance he had for discovering a seemingly progressive artist, but my obsessive understanding of music wouldn’t allow me to respond without conviction and a tinge of hypocrisy. I knew and openly admitted that I was impressed with Skrillex’s sound when I was first introduced and I even bought his album when it was sold at a ridiculously low price. However my past feelings of his music were no longer relevant when I felt bombarded with imitators of his sound in the electronic scene. I recalled a time that was only a few years ago when more styles of dubstep were represented in underground parties. Once again, I had donned the hat of a pretentious music listener who rambled about bands and microgenres most people had never heard of.
